Nuance Analyst Briefing 2010

Submitted By: Randall Dazo on March 26, 2010

In February, Nuance held an industry analyst briefing to provide an update of new announcements, status of the acquisition and integration of eCopy, and the future direction of the imaging group. Robert Weideman, Nuance General Manager and SVP, kicked off the meeting with an overview of Nuance and the history of their company. With the tagline “Nuance – the experience speaks for itself™”, Mr. Weideman recounted the rich history of applications, solutions and technology wins for the company. Some of these include mobile solutions in over 3 billion cell phones, applications in 4,000 healthcare institutions, and more than 8 billion customer care interactions annually utilizing some form of Nuance technology. Although many of these accolades stem from their speech to text division, there are certainly strong statistics coming from their document imaging group such as more than 21 million registered desktop users and 100,000 MFP solutions. Nonetheless, Nuance has positioned itself as a leader in the conversion space, whether it is voice or image to text. Read more »

Nuance acquires eCopy

Submitted By: Anne Valaitis on October 6, 2009

Nuance has completed an acquisition of eCopy. Apparently inked on September 30th, the Nuance acquisition shouldn’t be surprising in this rather accelerated time of consolidation. In fact it seems compression in our industry is hitting a fever pitch these days with acquisition news abound. We ponder on a daily basis, who is next, what makes sense, and who can afford to acquire whom?

A look back at AIIM 2009

Submitted By: Anne Valaitis on April 22, 2009

When I first walked into the Philadelphia convention center show this year, I have to admit I was a little taken back. In years past the joint AIIM/OnDemand expo was certainly much larger and decidedly louder. Gone are the book printers and roll fed devices demonstrating their might and churning out samples. Booths themselves were scaled back, and large product left behind in their place, brochures and posters. Staff was minimized as well, obviously a sign of the economic turmoil we find ourselves living in. Some vendors opted to go off the show floor and make use of meeting room space (Fujitsu), some opted out of the show altogether (Kodak). As a past attendee and exhibitor, I do remember foot traffic being heavier, however I also recall many demonstrations to clearly uninterested people who really just wanted the very cool pen, flashing ball, t-shirt, clock, calculator, sticky pad, USB stick or squishy thing we happened to be giving away. The vast majority of attendees of the past were casual lookers, somewhat buys, technofiles, and friends there to visit whatever cool city we were in. Attendees this year may have thought long and hard whether to attend, made a comittment to travel when many are not or cannot. Attendees this year were looking for solutions to either help them drive cost out of operations or understand ways these solutions can help them develop new business and grow existing. Attendees this year were more serious…maybe even more qualified than years past, the cool pen was an after thought. Read more »

Belgium is well-known all over the world for being the capital of luxury chocolate, which looks more like expensive jewelry to the disorientated tourists in the specialty shops. In the office equipment industry, however, Belgium is also known to be the country of many network document solutions providers, including I.R.I.S. SA. I.R.I.S. is located in Louvain la Neuve and is one of today’s leaders of OCR and document management solutions.

On the 2nd and 3rd of February, I.R.I.S. held its annual partners and analysts event (IRISLink 2009) at the Sheraton and SkyHall hotels, a stone’s throw away from Brussels international airport. The convention gathered over 600 participants, including I.R.I.S. key partners, resellers, clients, and industry analysts from different regions of the world, coming to hear about the company’s latest announcements on product development, technology breakthroughs, and strategic partnerships. It is no news that IRISLink has become one of the most important IT events in Benelux and Western Europe in the last few years.
