In anticipation of separating its business process operations into the newly minted company named Conduent, Xerox announced today that it is expanding its Global Document Outsourcing (GDO) Services Business to include two comprehensive offerings:

  • Communications & Marketing Services: A comprehensive suite of services designed to help clients transform their promotional, business, and transactional communications to enhance their customer’s experience.
  • Document Transaction Processing Services: A business automation offering that enables digital transformation by improving client’s flow of information into business processes.

Highlights of Xploration 15, the Customer Communications Conference

Last week, customer communications conference Xploration 15 hosted around 350 participants in Orlando, Florida. This annual conference is a major industry event with more than 60 educational sessions for vendors, service providers, and enterprise attendees.

The educational sessions covered a broad range of CCM topics including workflow and automation-related technology, e-presentment and payment technology and innovation, hosted/cloud managed models, as well as strategy considerations for outsourcing versus maintaining in-house operations. InfoTrends hosted two sessions that covered a review of highlights from our annual customer communications research, and insights on the importance of CCM in an increasing connected world.

Xerox and EFI – Making the Transformation

Xerox and EFI announced their 4Q 2012 earnings yesterday. Both companies continue to execute on strategies to transform, but are moving in different directions. There are lessons to be learned for the industry.

Xerox – Services for Growth, Technology for Profit

Xerox has made it very clear that they in the midst of a shift to a Services-led strategy. The company is managing its Technology business for profits and cash generation by lowering the cost basis and investing in services areas.

Xerox CEO Ursula Burns opened the earnings call by saying “Xerox is a company going through a seismic transformation.” The financial results show how far Xerox has transformed. The Services segment of the company grew 7% and is now 52% of the business and the Technology segment declined 8% and is now 48% of total revenue. For the first time, Xerox generated more in profits from Services than from Technology.
