Developers Using Cardboard to Test VR Environments at PAX East 2019

PAX East, which was held in Boston, MA, March 28th to 31st, 2019, is one of the largest gaming technology expos in the world. The four-day event, which in the past has drawn crowds of over 80,000, once again enjoyed a well-attended year. While no official number has been given, Keypoint Intelligence – InfoTrends (InfoTrends) estimates that around 100,000 people visited the show. While PAX is an event mainly focused on video games and gaming as a whole, it also serves as a technology showcase. Over the past several years, we have followed developments in virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and 3D printing at PAX East.

GDC Expands into VRDC: First Conference in 2016

Last March, UBM Tech expanded the virtual reality (VR) presence at its annual Game Developers Conference (GDC). The increased focus on VR turned out to be a trial run for the company. Following attendance and industry feedback, UBM Tech has decided to branch VR off into its own, dedicated conference. The first standalone Virtual Reality Developers Conference (VRDC) has been announced for later this year.

Is that a smartphone in your pocket?…

There is no doubt that American’s love their mobile phones — and our latest love affair is with the smartphone. According to the 2013 InfoTrends U.S. Mobile Imaging Study, 94% of consumers report using a mobile phone of some kind, and nearly 59% are using a smartphone. It’s hard to miss the slew of TV commercials that promote the latest and greatest smartphones. Some commercials, like the recent iPhone campaign say that more photos are taken and more music is listened to on an iPhone than any other device. Windows Phone has a funny commercial that makes fun of Android & iPhone users as they brawl with each other about which is better while the Windows users calmly stand by and shoot photos/video of the brawling group. All joking aside, which operating system is really winning over the hearts of U.S. consumers?
