Clover Acquires K+U Printware and Collecture

The largest remanufacturer of printing supplies, Clover Holdings, announced that it has acquired K+U Printware, a toner remanufacturer based in Germany, and its wholly-owned subsidiary for empties collection, Collecture. K+U Printware was founded in 1990 and is headquarted in Ettenheim, Germany, specializing in the remanufacture of toner cartridges. Collecture started in 2000 and collects printers, cartridges, mobile phones, and small electronics. The two organizations will continue to operate independently in their respective markets but will work together with Clover where synergies exist. Read more »

Canon Continues Legal Strategy for Drum Patent Protection

On January 23, 2012, Canon Inc. of Japan, Canon U.S.A., Inc. of Lake Success, NY, and Canon Virginia, Inc., of Newport News, VA filed another complaint with the ITC to begin an investigation into two patents. At the same time, Canon filed civil action against the respondents in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York for the same patents. The two photoconductor patents are the same two patents that Canon had previously alleged patent infringement in 2010 for an ITC complaint (337-TA-731). This investigation was terminated in May 2011 due to the issue of a consent order prohibiting all 20 respondents including Ninestar from importing into the U.S. The patents are 5,903,803 and 6,128,454. Clover Acquires ERS

There has been a flurry of acquisition activity this week in the aftermarket. First, Katun acquired Media Sciences’ toner business and now Clover has acquired broker, Environmental Reclamation Services (ERS). According to the press release from November 15, 2010, Clover Holdings, Inc., the largest aftermarket remanufacturer, acquired ERS but both companies will continue to operate independently servicing their customers. Founded in 1990, ERS is headquartered in Erie, PA and is a global provider of environmental solutions including recycling and the collection of printer supplies and small electronics. ERS is one of the biggest companies of its kind processing over 70 million units since inception and had been owned by Falcon Investments since March 2007. The other large broker similar to ERS would be Greentec (Ontario, Canada). Read more »
