Konica Minolta Business Solutions Acquires All Covered, Inc.

Yesterday Konica Minolta Business Solutions US announced the company had acquired All Covered Inc., a national provider of Managed IT Services to small and medium sized businesses.  All Covered is a nationwide technology services organization that provides a range of services including proactive server management, remote monitoring, cloud computing, on-site network support and consulting.  It has 22 offices across the United States.

InfoTrends believes that this signals a significant shift of focus for office equipment manufactures in which they are not only thinking about the expansion of their core services around office equipment and peripherals but also around IT services as well.  It also shows a shift in acquisitions for these vendors in which they are not only looking at traditional office equipment providers as acquisition targets but also traditional IT and new Managed Service providers to include in their channels arsenal.  (Two years ago we saw the Xerox/ACS acquisition that brought additional BPO and ITO services to Xerox)

Over the past year InfoTrends has also been talking about moving beyond Managed Print Services and offering other services that are complimentary to the print and print solutions environments.  These are services that can include workflow solutions, business process optimization and IT services as well.    We are also seeing a convergence of Managed Print Services and Managed IT Services or Managed Services Providers who can offer customers a one stop shop (as well as one throat to choke) for all their services as customers are looking to simplify the management of their outsource strategies.

This Konica Minolta acquisition of All Covered looks to be very complimentary.  All Covered can focus on their core IT services and KMBS can bring in their value and expertise of peripherals and solutions to All Covered’s customers.  Konica Minolta has also focused its business significantly around SMB customers that can also take advantage of All Covered’s IT expertise in the SMB space.  We definitely see this as a very good pick up for KMBS as we see strong growth in both the MPS and MSP spaces as well as we see them continuing to shape the future of our converging industries.
