Label Expo, the premier tradeshow for the label industry, will take place September 29 to October 2 in Brussels. Now decades old, this is the show that never seems to fade, and also one where the role of digital printing technologies always seems to grow. InfoTrends will attend and make a detailed report about it to clients but for now we offer a quick preview of what we expect to see:
A huge HP booth: The stand’s core equipment will be HP Indigo WS6800 (labels and other applications) and 20000 (a 30” web, for flexible packaging and for labels also), but there will be many other products. Fujifilm Simple Products (FFSP), a software development subsidiary of Fujifilm, released its Form Magic 4 Variable Data Print (VDP) software introduction on June 8, 2010. FFSP is one of the primary VDP software vendors in the Japanese market. According to an InfoTrends report exploring the Japanese POD solutions market (published December 2008), Fujifilm had a market share of 12% in 2007–making it the fourth-largest player in terms of volume base and new licenses sold for graphic arts use). During a press conference on Form Magic 4, FFSP claimed that its customer base was currently in excess of 250.

Yesterday, Bitstream, the developer of the Pageflex solutions suite announced it has agreed to acquire all of Press-sense’s assets for $6.5 million in cash.
For those of you that are not familiar with Bitstream, the company develops and sells a range of software technology including fonts, variable data publishing, Web-to-print, and more recently mobile Web browsers. The company, headquartered in Marlborough, Massachusetts, has been around since the early 1980s and has been public since 1996. Last fiscal year, Bitstream reported revenue of $21 million. Read more »
