photplus logoSince, several of the leading companies in the photo industry have U.S. headquarters in the New York metropolitan area, the PhotoPlus Expo (PPE) is a great “home show” for many industry insiders and professional photographers. PPE draws a healthy contingent from the surrounding metropolitan region and has become one of the must attend events for the East Coast. The show included more than 200 exhibitors and was expected to draw 21,000-plus attendees to the show.

Nikon Df DSLR

Feeling a little nostalgic today? I know I am and it’s thanks to the introduction of the Nikon Df a new DSLR with all the modern bells and whistles but with the retro look of a film SLR. The show floor was home to over 260 exhibitors, according to PPE’s website. The major players were all present including Canon, Nikon, Sony, HP, and Kodak. Polaroid returned as an exhibitor for the first time in many years and had a wide range of products on display. 2011 was the inaugural exhibit year for Panasonic at PPE where they displayed its line of LUMIX digital cameras and the G Series of Compact System Cameras.

Although there were no product launches at the show, there was plenty of technology, accessories, and print service providers to keep one busy. One of the show’s most notable highlights was the new Nikon 1 camera system.
