A number of Keypoint Intelligence analysts are covering ITEX 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada this week. Here’s a mid-event account from Steve Pearl, Associate Director, Solutions & Services:
The pioneers traveled westward to find their future; the same is true for many dealers attending ITEX 2017 in Las Vegas. Booth activity and energy levels are strong. I’m happy to report that rumors related to the potential demise of this important show have been exaggerated.
There isn’t another show like this left that is vendor-agnostic. Dealers can connect with leaders in the industry on the topic of managed IT services, cloud solutions, managed print, supplies management, service automation, finances, data analytics, search engine optimization (SEO), and much more.
Nearly 300 people attended the keynote session, and the booths are crowded with dealers eager to learn how to expand their businesses. Unlike the original pioneers, dealers don’t have to take arrows in the process of securing their future. They can simply take advantage of all the expertise around them. More to come…
The interest is palpable. Attendees were eager to learn during Jeff Hayes’ keynote.
Reasons for growing revenue is on everyone’s minds. That’s why they are here.

Revenue diversification and revenue growth as a corporate strategy to increase sales from new products and new markets is nothing new. Expanding into a new segment of an industry that a business is already in, or investing in a promising business outside of the scope of the existing business are solid avenues to diversification. What is so unique about Toshiba America Business Solutions is how they get there; with technology creation, innovation and a true brand agnostic approach. Need proof they are serious? 25% of their core MFP product page is HP & Lexmark and almost their entire printer product page is NOT THEIR PRODUCT. This is not the bait and switch of a Global Imaging Systems, where you are assured that yes, you will be able to continue carrying multiple product lines, only to make the non-Xerox line noncompetitive with high internal transfer costs making it difficult if not impossible to recommend products that compete with the core Xerox line. No, this group at Toshiba is different and the independent dealer channel should take notice.
Toshiba LEAD for the second consecutive year struck home a message of “Revenue Beyond Print”. Digital Signage and the Ellumina Digital Signage services along with Virtuoso digital signage displays, and LED signage for outdoor usage was eloquently showcased and created a very positive buzz among the independent dealers, Toshiba direct employees and end user attendees. Highlighted throughout the technology floor and general sessions were applications and content vs. hardware which made it easy for dealers and end users to envision the digital signage market opening as well as key vertical market opportunities were demonstrated.

Services-led. Technology-enabled. People-drive. Those were the themes at this year’s Ricoh Convergence event in Las Vegas, where over 600 participants gathered at the Wynn hotel to take part in educational seminars, networking, and panel discussions covering topics ranging from Ricoh’s new services-led dealership program to how to increase dealer growth via Ricoh’s resources to gaining better insight into Ricoh’s new technology platform. The technology expo showcased demos and tutorials on Ricoh’s new and existing hardware and solutions and services offerings.Â
One of the biggest announcements made during this event was Ricoh’s move to a new services-led business model. Recognizing the emerging MPS opportunities in the market, this is a turning point for dealers to capitalize on implementing a services-led environment for their customers.  Read more »

Sparing no expense, Ricoh held its annual dealer conference at the beautiful Palazzo hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada during April 19th-22nd. This was the first time that Ricoh brought together the Ricoh Family Group indirect channels and also the first chance to meet the new IKON leadership of the company. Making a great impression was something Ricoh had to do. Ricoh traditionally held separate events for its Ricoh, Savin, and Lanier channels. Because of the major transitions at the helm of Ricoh Americas and Ricoh US, however, it made sense to address all groups at once at an event themed Convergence 2010. Read more »

Toshiba — Committed to Your Success
InfoTrends recently attended one of two regional events for Toshiba America Business Solutions Inc. July 28th in Jersey City, NJ. The event was a mixture of channel partners, software, supply and services vendors and analysts. Toshiba took this opportunity to discuss their company and division’s performance as well as to make some announcements regarding new initiatives regarding MPS, solutions, products and programs. Some of the announcements to come out of the meeting were:
– A new branding campaign, and redesigned website
– Product introductions — 9 new monochrome models with emphasis on ecology and security
– A multi-tiered software strategy designed to aid dealers in positioning solutions
– Additions to the software product portfolio — Prism Software’s “desk” series of products
– New partners announcements — Pharos Systems, Fasoo
– Enhancements to the Encompass MPS program — PageSmart series of options
– A newly inked agreement with HP to offer their line of printer and MFP products
Toshiba remained confident about the future of the industry and took this opportunity to once again squelch rumors of a buyout. Dealers left with assurances to the commitment level Toshiba has to its products, programs and services and of course, its channel.

The Ricoh Vision 2008 show was held last week at the Omni Championsgate Resort in Orlando, FL, and a few of us were in attendance. The theme of the show, “Leading the REVolution,” emphasized the Real Enhanced Value (get it?) that Ricoh and its dealers are poised to provide.
Ricoh executives were on-hand to speak with dealers and analysts, provide insight into the current state and future of the organization, as well as (broadly) comment on possible implications and scenarios following the IKON deal. We were also privy to a full analyst briefing, tech expo, and dealer seminars on environmental sustainability, production print, and REV solutions. (Clients – watch for our full analysis next week!)
For me, the highlight of the event was a toss up between guest speaker Pat Riley, Chris Bliss’s amazing juggling to The Beatles, and Kirk Yoshida’s “I’m Back” general session. I guess the Florida weather in October wasn’t too bad either.od.
PS Did you know Ricoh sponsors the sustainable development award at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair?
