Lexmark’s National Dealer Show, May 9th – 11th, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida absolutely DID NOT SUCK. This was my first time attending a Lexmark event as an analyst and no offense to Lexington, Kentucky but did I ever luck out that my first Lexmark event was held in sunny Florida and bonus, just a few hours from home in lovely Orlando. Winning!
I arrived early on the 9th and was greeted by this scene right outside my room, which I thought was a great way to kick things off because Lexmark Dealers owned the beach that week, absolutely owned it!
Lexmark literally owned the Ft. Lauderdale Beach.
Mike Johnson, VP of North America Business Channels, kicked off Day 1 thanking the members of the press for their support, management for their support, dealers for their support…which I thought was a really nice touch to do in an in depth fashion, discuss how each of the mentioned groups uniquely contributes to Lexmark’s overall success.
I know the theme of the event was overwhelmingly about color and A4 potential for dealers. But one of my key takeaways from the event overall was Read more »

RISO has had high-speed inkjet in its ComColor line since 2005. At its recent Americas dealer event (May 18-19 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas) it announced product line updates as well as some production-oriented news for the upcoming drupa trade show (May 31 to June 10 in Dusseldorf, Germany). RISO’s ComColor products have always straddled the line between office use and light production. With the announcement of these two new offerings the company is differentiating the product family to target the products to the right customers.
The new inkjet products are the GD9630 and the FW5230. RISO calls the GD9630 “Professional Inkjet” or “Pro-Jet” while it uses the term “Business Inkjet” or “Biz-Jet” for the FW5230:

At Konica Minolta’s Art of Disruption Dealer meeting last month in Los Angeles, California, they discussed what they believe are the industry’s biggest trends, how Konica Minolta plans to transform their business through these evolutions, and what their dealers should do to evolve with them to continue to be successful. A core message at the conference was that of diversification through new technologies to “disrupt” the industry. Read more »

There was an awkward moment in one of the conference sessions at Konica Minolta’s recent dealer meeting. Polly LaBarre, co-author of Mavericks at Work, was summing up her presentation and she asked listeners if they would promise to ‘walk into the office stupider, and ask more questions.’ Promoting stupidity seems like a losing proposition but the ‘asking questions’ part is right on the mark, and I think it is a good reflection of the way that Konica Minolta conducted its ‘Shape the Future’ event, which took place November 17-19 at the Venetian/Palazzo Resort in Las Vegas.

With over 1,200 attendees and representation from 597 Ricoh dealerships, Convergence 2013 was Ricoh’s largest dealer event of all time. The executive team was very accessible and honest in their self-evaluation of where they have been, mistakes made along the way and creating specific plans for addressing the issues and growing the company.

More than 1,000 attendees have been in Las Vegas the past couple of days at the Bellagio hotel for Konica Minolta’s dealer event. This is the third such Konica Minolta event I’ve attended in the past few years. (See previous blogs on the one in Los Angeles in 2010 and Orlando in 2009. This year’s theme is “Inspire Customer Passion” and to bring that message home Konica Minolta presented an engaging mix of corporate presentations, an inspiring keynote by Tony Hsieh (CEO of Zappos and author of the book Delivering Happiness), and evening entertainment by Larry the Cable Guy.
Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas

Sparing no expense, Ricoh held its annual dealer conference at the beautiful Palazzo hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada during April 19th-22nd. This was the first time that Ricoh brought together the Ricoh Family Group indirect channels and also the first chance to meet the new IKON leadership of the company. Making a great impression was something Ricoh had to do. Ricoh traditionally held separate events for its Ricoh, Savin, and Lanier channels. Because of the major transitions at the helm of Ricoh Americas and Ricoh US, however, it made sense to address all groups at once at an event themed Convergence 2010. Read more »

In a week that’s sure to be dominated by Xerox-ACS analysis, let’s focus on another vendor that is quietly gaining traction in the Managed Print Services (MPS) market — namely, Oki Printing Solutions and their 3-tier Total Managed Print program. At the lowest tier, the PageStart option helps channel players sell Oki products with comprehensive supplies and services under a cost-per-page (CPP) model. Nothing novel here, but Oki’s partner portal takes this offering to another level altogether.
Oki’s Business Partner Exchange (BPX) is no ordinary Web site but rather an MPS application in the cloud. Using a step-by-step process, the portal takes channel players through easy-to-answer questions:
- “Select the contract term”
- “Choose your primary distributor”
- “Input your margin for this product”
- “Choose your accessories,” and other MPS proposal fields. Read more »

Barb Pellow and I were invited along with about twenty other market analysts to attend the Konica Minolta Business Solutions Vision 2009 dealer event in Orlando, Florida. Of the more than 400 U.S. dealers, Konica Minolta estimates that about 60% to 70% were represented at Vision 2009. All in all, InfoTrends believes that close to 1,000 people attended the event, including Konica Minolta dealers, employees, and partners. Held at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, Konica Minolta’s Vision 2009 included presentations by Konica Minolta executives, a keynote by Fortune magazine senior editor Geoffrey Colvin, various workshops, and an extensive exhibition area.
You can see more on the product and service announcements in the News area of the InfoTrends web site, but what I’d like to write about today is how Konica Minolta addressed the concerns of the audience of dealers. The parallels with the national dealer event that Ricoh USA held in October are interesting to consider in light of the close proximity of the two meetings: Read more »
