Digital Asset Management (DAM) as we have come to know it over the years is the notion of managing and archive important and often valuable digital assets. However, as multi-media distribution continues to grow, so does the roll of DAM in all aspects of the workflow. DAM systems now have the ability to support projects from the very beginning and integrate easily into production and distribution, DAM in this capacity has become the rule not the exception.
DAM is also the driving force behind marketers, publishers, and enterprises delivering rich-media content across various channels, languages, and locations to customers. It sits at the core of many workflow processes within these organizations to ensure brand consistency and the proper use of assets. Even today, DAM continues to evolve to support the changing media landscape as determined by the demands of consumers. Here are some of the current trends that are changing DAM solutions and driving new opportunities for its use today:

The Tiara Group Toner 2013 Conference was held June 3rd & 4th, back at its original long time location at the Fess Parker DoubleTree Resort in Santa Barbara, CA. This resurrected conference has a long history and several changes in ownership.
It was the Diamond Toner Conference for many years and attracted OEMs, toner and drum producers and a range of suppliers of raw materials such as resins, carrier cores and colorants. Eventually the Tiara Group took over the conference with Art Diamond still serving as chairman. When the recession hit the conference was moved from the Fess Parker Resort to more affordable accommodations in Marina del Rey, CA. But attendance continued to drop and the conference was sold to Pira Research which held the conference once before giving it up.
There was no toner conference in 2012 but for 2013 Art Diamond and the Tiara Group pulled the conference together again returning to the Fess Parker Resort. Read more »

The 2012 HOW Design Live, an event sponsored by HOW magazine held this year in Boston from June 21-25th, is an event that service providers should consider attending. It’s one of the largest gatherings of designers, freelancers, creative team managers, and other creative professionals in the country. The creative community, according to the 48th Annual Print Survey conducted by Graphic Design USA, remains central to the process of buying print and specifying paper. In addition, these professionals play a pivotal role in shaping cross media campaigns. As more and more service providers bring to market solutions that integrate print and online media channels, connecting with the design community should be a priority.

Last week I had the opportunity to attend Kodak’s Graphic Users Association Conference at the Grande Lakes Resort in Orlando, Florida. For those that may be unfamiliar, the 5,500-member Graphic Users Association, more commonly referred to as GUA, is a users group for Kodak software and hardware owners. Anyone who buys at least one piece of Kodak software or hardware is able to join GUA and get access to its online forums to interact with other Kodak users, as well as the opportunity to attend the annual conference. GUA operates fairly indepedently from Kodak, but still has Kodak representatives on its board to coordinate contact between Kodak and GUA, as well as to help coordinate the conference.
This year’s overarching theme of the conference was “Efficiency Revealed”, focusing on how print service providers can utilize production workflow solutions and integration to automate their print shop, increase efficiency, improve turnaround time, and ultimately decrease costs on jobs. Kodak’s Prinergy and InSite product lines that make up Kodak’s Unified Workflow portfolio were highlighted often in various sessions. Workflow topics ranged from utilizing Prinergy’s Rules-Based Automation (RBA) functionality to setting up a business plan for integrated a workflow with MIS. There was also a full software lab available, where users could test out new and upcoming software, as well as troubleshoot issues with files or applications.
