About a year after Canon Solutions America (CSA) announced that it was exploring the idea of forming a user group for its production print customers, it has announced a name for the group and the date of its first event. The group is called the thINK Customer Community and its inaugural event, the thINK Customer Conference, will take place September 8th to 10th in New York. Last week at the Canon Expo in Tokyo Océ added a new inkjet product to its production color continuous feed offerings. Called the ColorStream 3500, the new device runs at 75 meters per minute and is capable of 537 A4 images per minute in a simplex configuration and 1,010 in duplex. As with Océ’s JetStream products, the device uses Kyocera drop-on-demand inkjet heads. The ColorStream 3500 is available in simplex or duplex configurations from one to six colors, and is field upgradeable. The device uses water-based inks (either dye or pigment). An Océ technology called InkSafe uses RFID to assure that the right ink is loaded in the right place. “Type 1” finishing connectivity allows direct integration with third-party finishing systems.

Canon Expo 2010 is taking place this week (September 1st through 3rd) at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. It will go on the road to Tokyo and Paris later this year and there will also be one in Shanghai in 2011.

The Expo covers all of Canon’s product areas and had some fascinating areas dedicated to Canon consumer and medical imaging technologies, but they are a topic for another day. The focus of this blog will be the production digital print developments at Canon Expo. Read more »
