iOS (iPhone) in the News

Apple once again held true to its history of a September iPhone introduction. There was much speculation around the impending announcement and Apple delivered by introducing two models on September 11th — the iPhone 5c and the 5s. Although the overall excitement for some seems to be waning that never stops the true Fan Boys; the very day the phones were announced, there was a guy in Tokyo that lined up in front of his local Apple Store and lines continue to form wherever the phones will be available even though they will be available  on September 20th.

Weak economy continues to impact North America office equipment market in 2012

Barbara Richards

Overall, slow economic growth in both the U.S. and Canada continued to impact the North America office equipment market in 2012. Total unit shipments of all office single function printers and MFPs declined 10.6% year over year; this figure includes all technologies: laser, inkjet, and impact. Once again, HP held the number one market share position in 2012 with 50.1% of the market. This was followed by Canon (14.8%) and Epson (10.4%).

What’s in Your Digital Mailbox, Canada?

Matt Swain
 Jan 31, 2013

Although epost has been available to Canadians since 2000, there are recent signs that Canada Post  is invigorating this digital mailbox initiative. The service has grown from 100,000 registered users in 2001 to more than 8 million having registered today. To put this in perspective, that’s around 30% of Canadians over the age of 18.

I had a chance to learn more about 2012 progress and future plans when I visited with Kerry Munro, President of the Digital Delivery Network,  last week in Toronto.

Graph Expo Attendance Up Compared to 2011

If trade show numbers can be believed (and let’s hope they can), the attendance numbers from the Graph Expo 2012 organizers are encouraging. Overall attendance was up by close to 3% and the all-important ‘verified attendee/buyers’ category was up around 2%. This is particularly encouraging in light of the staggering drop in drupa 2012 attendance. Yet before we all get too excited about this, keep in mind that this only amounts to about 270 more verified buyers than in 2011. The bigger increase was in non-verified buyers (presumably booth staff and maybe some analysts and press).

Graph Expo 2011 2012 Difference % Change
Participants (exhibitors & attendees) 20,451 21,022 +571 2.8%
Verified attendee/buyers 13,426 13,694 +268 2.0%
Unique buyer companies represented 8,026 8,252 +226 2.8%
