Epson America, Inc. (www.epson.com) has announced a new partnership that could shake things up a bit in the world of Managed Print Services.

The Long Beach, Calif.-based company has teamed with Print Audit (www.printaudit.com), a Calgary, Alberta-based provider of device and print management solutions, in a deal that appears to be a win-win for both sides.

Although this is not the first inkjet device to be able to track printing information through Print Audit’s software, the company has worked more closely with Epson America (and its Japanese parent) to have specific compatibility testing and confirmation jointly, to ensure that all of the information on meters, supply and service are consistent and accurate across their new model series.

Epson’s certification of Print Audit applies to the entire line of Epson WorkForce Pro commercial printers. That includes models that are powered by PrecisionCore, Epson’s next-generation printing technology. The partnership will allow IT network professionals to use Print Audit tools that are designed to automate supplies and services management for increased profitability, as well as a more streamlined approach to data management.

In a prepared statement, Epson Director of Business Imaging Larry Trevarthen lauded the ramifications of the deal: “Print Audit’s print management software, coupled with Epson’s WorkForce Pro business printers, provides resellers with a productive and cost-efficient printing solution for the workplace.”

The collaboration between Epson, which is led by Japan-based Seiko Epson Corp., and Print Audit will enable both companies to provide customers and resellers with MPS support services that result in simplified data collection for printing costs and activities. Some advantages to the partnership include automation for supplies and service management, increased profitability, and alert systems for increased control.

The WorkForce Pro printers are certified with Print Audit’s Facilities Manager platform, a tool that is designed to remotely collect meter reads, automate supplies fulfillment, and report service information for managing fleets of printers, copiers, fax machines and multi-function devices. Facilities Manager makes its possible for resellers and IT professionals to maximize productivity by making sure that all printing costs are counted.

InfoTrends believes this deal not only will be a boon to Epson and Print Audit supporters but could also spark a new trend that proves beneficial to the greater Managed Print Services market as business inkjet devices become mainstream, cost-alternative products for business and MPS engagements.
